Chivalry, combat, cooking and costume. Caponi Art Park and the Society of Creative Anachronism bring you the Middle Ages as they should have been: without the strife and pestilence! Authentic pavilions will be on display in a Medieval Village as artisans and noblemen in period dress present interactive demonstrations and activities to the public, including rapier, armored combat, pewter casting, musicians and dancing, cooking, heraldry and various fiber arts.

See raptors released back to the wild, participate in children’s activities and educational displays and observe live eagles, hawks, owls and falcons up close!

Releases are at 11:30 AM and 2:00 PM.

Of all the locations the MN Raptor Center has held its twice annual releases, Carpenter St Crois Valley Nature Center is one of the best! Not only is there a river valley for the released raptors to soar over, it is located in amongst some wonderful apple orchards. It’s a bit of a two for one opportunity; if you get bored of photographing birds of prey really REALLY close up, you can always wander about in the orchards during early apple harvest season.

The temps might have been below zero, but we got out for some fantastic shooting of sleighs and cutters pulled by majestic horses driven by costumed drivers around the Lake Phalen Golf Course. Fortunately there was actual snow this year!

Late afternoon is when the State Fair changes over to a different atmosphere, and we were there to capture it. From crowds on the street to horse barns to the midway to the fireworks, we got it all!
