September Club Meeting

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

Meeting Date:  September 16, 2010 – 6:30 PM

Meeting Location: Christ Presbyterian Church

Digital Salon: “Macro” — Close-up photography (1:1 or closer) with limited depth of field. Find small details of larger objects to create abstract looking images, or maybe you want to take pictures of creepy crawlies like spiders and beetles or maybe close ups of flowers. More info: http://www.photography-basics.com/2007/06/what-is-macro-photography/

Program: Steve Bye – Shooting Tethered with Lightroom 3
Shooting with your digital camera tethered to your computer via USB is a simple way to see your results immediately on a display much larger than the LCD on the back of your camera. Steve will demonstrate how easy it is to do with Lightroom 3.

Steve had a film darkroom many years ago but shut it down when it became too much work to set up and take down each time he wanted to use it. Digital photography rekindled his interest in photography. He is especially interested in inkjet printing. Steve is a Adobe Certified Instructor in Photoshop and teaches Photoshop, Lightroom, and digital photography at the Minneapolis Photo Center.

“Best of the Best”

Banquet and social time followed by awards presentation:

Points are accumulated throughout the competition year (September through May) and the three top scorers in each of the divisions (Monochrome Prints, Color Prints, Digital Images) are recognized during this special evening.

The “Competitor of the Year” is awarded to the person with the highest accumulated score overall score in all divisions. “Rookie Competitor of the Year” is awarded to a first-year member with the highest accumulated score overall in all divisions.

In addition to other special awards, judge’s awards are given based on the end-of-year judge(s) impressions of images that received an Acceptance (points = 8, 9 or 10) throughout the year.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————–

Our final meeting will be on the same night we normally would meet (Thursday, June 17, at 6:30 p.m.), but at a wine tasting warehouse. Instead of a photography presenter we are going to taste 7 different wines (more if the owner gets his whites done on time) and eat grilled brats. This will be our first brat/wine/photo judging party. The club will provide the brats and condiments, the wine tasting will be covered by a small fee, you can purchase wines directly from the owner that night at a substantial discount and the venue should be perfect for our year end judging. You will not want to miss this year end meeting, period.

We are not being charged for use of the space and the club dues will provide the brats and condiments. We will have a small charge for the tasting ($8-10), but the final figure is dependent upon the number of persons in attendance. We can have up to 90 people attend. Since we have about 45-50 members, each member can bring one guest and we’ll be ok. We really can’t accommodate more without incurring greater fees for the tasting, which means the meeting is only open to the first 90 who RSVP. To make sure we can plan this out I will need to know how many people wish to attend. You will not be charged if you end up not attending, but your early response will help me get a headcount to plan the event (food, wine, chairs). Therefore, I would ask that you e-mail me at Mark Karney within the next week to let me know if you intend to show up, and if so, whether you will bring a guest. If you don’t RSVP and we meet our quota, you will not be able to attend.

– Mark Karney
